How can I contact a faculty member?

Some faculty members publish their e-mail addresses on the Faculty Members page of the website. If the address of the faculty member you are looking for is not published, you can write to the faculty member by postal mail at the Graduate School of Business Administration, Hitotsubashi University, 2-1 Naka, Kunitachi, Tokyo 186-8601.

Can I get an introduction to faculty members conducting research in a certain field?

Is it possible to take courses offered by the Graduate Schools of your university other than the School of Business Administration?

It is possible to take courses not subject to enrollment restrictions. It is also possible to take advanced undergraduate courses (mainly courses for third and fourth year students). However, please note that even if you take courses offered by our other graduate schools, and by our advanced undergraduate courses, - - - except for credits earned by secondary seminars - - - the credits earned can not be included in the course requirements to complete the MBA Courses (Management Analysis Program, Business Administration Program, Hospitality Management Program, and Innovation Management Program (Doctoral Program) .

Are Japanese language classes offered for international students?

Intensive Japanese language classes are available to international students in the Researcher Training Course and MBA Course (Management Analysis Program).

Are there any English-medium instruction programs to obtain an MBA degree?

Not at the School of Business Administration, but the School of International Corporate Strategy offers such a program. For details, see http://www.ics.hub.hit-u.ac.jp/.

Is a multilevel marketing (MLM) program offered?

We do not offer courses specifically about MLM.

Is a tourism MBA program offered?

Since AY2018, we have launched “Hospitality Management Program”, offering programs to develop human resources to become business leaders in the field of tourism and hospitality industry.

Do you have specialized programs for obtaining qualifications for tax accounting and CPA?

We don’t offer such a program.

How about class schedules of Business Administration Program, Hospitality Management Program, Innovation Management Program (Doctoral Program)?

Basically, classes take place on weekday evening. Some special classes also take place on Saturday. Please note that you can not fulfill course requirements by taking only Saturday, daytime courses. So, please get ready to take both 1st and 2nd period of classes held on weekday evening.

GRADUATE SCHOOL ACADEMIC YEAR AND COURSE SCHEDULES

When is admission?

In SBA, admission is in April of each academic year only. There is no September admission.

What are the course schedules?

In Kunitachi Campus, classes are held on weekdays (Monday to Friday) only. Five class periods per day (8:45-10:30, 10:45-12:30, 13:15-15:00, 15:15-17:00, and 17:10-18:55).
In Chiyoda Campus, classes are held on weekday evening. Two class periods per day (18:20 - 20:05, 20:15 - 22:00). Classes also take place on Saturday (around 9:00 - around 17:00).

Is there an MBA program offered on evenings or on Saturdays?

Since AY2018, we have offered “Business Administration Program” and “Hospitality Management Program” held on weekday evenings and on Saturday.

Is there a short-term program of a few months or a system for auditing some classes?

There is no such program or system for graduate school courses. The university accepts applications for auditors for undergraduate courses. See http://www.hit-u.ac.jp/kyomu/entry_guide/auditor.html(Japanese).

Can I get information about university life in general (dormitories, scholarships, tuition, and other matters)?

FOR PERSONS CONSIDERING APPLYING (JAPANESE NATIONALS AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS)

20. Is it possible to apply to both the School of Business Administration and another Hitotsubashi University graduate school?

Yes, it is possible.

Is it possible to apply to both the Researcher Training Program (PhD Program) and the Master of Business Administration Program?

Concerning the School of Business Administration (SBA), admission exams are held in multiple rounds divided into from A to F categories. You are not permitted to apply to exams fallen into the same category. You can simultaneously apply to exams fallen into the different categories. Please check the relevant pages of the application guidelines for details.

I am neither enrolled in nor have I graduated from a university commerce or business program. Am I qualified to apply for admission to the master’s program?

You are qualified to apply if you have obtained a bachelor’s degree from a university.

I graduated from university outside Japan. Am I qualified to apply for admission to the master’s program?

You are qualified to apply if you have obtained a bachelor’s degree from a university.

I attended an evening undergraduate degree program and did not write a graduation thesis. Am I qualified to apply for admission to the master’s program?

You are qualified to apply if you have obtained a bachelor’s degree from a university.

Are there entrance examinations for adult students?

Yes, there are. Candidates must have at least three years’ work experiences to apply to the MBA courses “Business Administration Program” and “Hospitality Management Program”, and the Doctoral Course “Innovation Management Program”, all of which are operated at Chiyoda campus.
In the meantime, for the MBA Course “Management Analysis Program” offered at Kunitachi campus, we conduct “Special Selection Process” for company-or organization-sponsored candidates.

Is there an entrance examination specifically for undergraduate students enrolled in Hitotsubashi University?

Yes, there is. Students in senior year are selected through internal screening process to be admitted to the MBA course “Management Analysis Program”. Also, concerning this “Management Analysis Program”, a “five-year consecutive education program” is also available to students in junior and senior years, in which they can obtain a Master’s degree just a year after they have completed undergraduate programs.

Is it necessary to have passed a qualification examination to apply for admission?

In the case of the Researcher Training Course and Management Analysis Program (MBA Course), there is a space for this on the application form, and a qualification examination, although not mandatory, is one of the factors considered. However, the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Level 1 (N1) certification is required for international students who wish to enroll in the ALL Program.

If I decide that I want to become a researcher after enrolling in the MBA Course , is it possible to advance to the Doctoral Program?

Yes. You can take the Doctoral Program Entrance Examination, which is conducted in February.

Can I purchase the past exam questions?

We don’t sell the past exams, but the questions are listed at http://www.sba.hub.hit-u.ac.jp/admission/past/(Japanese).
Some questions are not available on the website due to copyright issues. All the questions can be viewed at our Educational Affairs Office.

Is a Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Level 1 (N1) certificate required?

Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Level 1 (N1) certification is not required for international students except those who wish to enroll in the Researcher Training Course and Management Analysis Program (MBA Course). However, as most classes and tests are given in Japanese, students are strongly encouraged to have adequate Japanese language skills at the time of enrollment.

How many places are available in the master’s program special entrance examination for international students?

There is no fixed admissions quota for overseas nationals.

What is the difference between the master’s program special entrance examination for international students and the general master’s program entrance examination?

In regards to the MBA Program entrance examination for international students, the length of the applicant’s stay in Japan should not exceed four years as of the first day of the application period. The selection process will be based on the application documents and the results of an oral examination.
For the PhD Program entrance examination for international students, the length of the applicant’s stay in Japan should not exceed four years as of the first day of the application period. In addition, the number of exam questions is less than the general entrance examination.

I am a fourth-year international student who studied at a university outside Japan until my second year and transferred to a Japanese university in my third year. Am I eligible to take the master’s program special entrance examination for international students?

You can apply if the length of your stay in Japan satisfies the requirements established by each selection process.

Is there a special admissions process for international students for the Doctoral Program?

Yes, there is. The process started in 2015.

Can I become a foreign research student?

If I become a foreign research student, can I enroll in the Graduate School with no other eligibility requirements?

You cannot enroll in the Graduate School without passing the entrance examination for your desired program or course.

Can I get an introduction to an international student enrolled in the Graduate School?

We do not provide introductions to international students.

Could you tell me about faculty members who are specializing in my major?

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

After reading the application guide, I understand that I have to undergo an individual eligibility screening. What specific procedures should I follow?

We will provide specific guidance. Please send an e-mail (info@cm.hit-u.ac.jp) or letter containing the necessary information outlined in the application guide. Please note that the due date is earlier than the application period.

Is it necessary to contact my desired academic advisor before applying?

No, it is not necessary.

Could you tell me how to fill in the application form?

Please refer to the entry example(Japanese).

I have been informed by my university that a graduation certificate and academic transcript cannot be issued in either Japanese or English. What should I do?

Translations by the applicant are acceptable. Please attach complete translations to the original documents.

Are there prescribed forms for a graduation certificate and academic transcript?

The University has no prescribed forms. Please submit the documents in the format used by the university from which you graduated or are graduating.

Who shall I ask to prepare the Academic Advisor Remarks and Recommendation Form?

The forms may be prepared by anyone who can evaluate your character and abilities, even someone who is not a university faculty member.

I understand that submission of the Academic Advisor Remarks and Recommendation Form is voluntary, but will I be at a disadvantage if I don’t submit them?

The Academic Advisor Remarks and Recommendation Form are used for reference when making admission decisions, but applicants will not be rejected simply because of not submitting them.

Please provide detailed information on the formats for the Academic Advisor Remarks and Recommendation Form.

Documents that satisfy all of the conditions below are considered valid Academic Advisor Remarks and Recommendation Forms.

- Filled-in official form provided by Hitotsubashi University or an application on a separate sheet with all the items listed on the official form (a memo of “see attached” should be written on the official form).

- Signed and stamped with the applicant’s seal (if the applicant is Japanese)

- The envelope in which the application documents are enclosed is tightly sealed.

- Documents are either typed or hand written.

- Any types of envelop is acceptable.

Is it possible to submit documents directly from outside Japan?

Most programs accept domestic applications only. If you wish to apply from abroad, please send your application through someone who lives in Japan on your behalf. (In such cases, examination admission cards will be sent to the person in Japan.)

I would like to take the master’s program special entrance examination for international students. When I accessed the credit card payment screen, “Applications have closed” appeared on the screen.

You will be able to make payment once the application period begins. (You must be a Japan resident in order to make payment with a credit card.)

FROM APPLICATION SUBMISSION UNTIL THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS

Can I revise the application documents after I submit them?

No revision of application documents after submission is permitted.

Will I be contacted if any of the necessary application documents are missing?

The School of Business Administration Administration Office will contact you by telephone, e-mail or other means and request submission of the missing documents. If you cannot be contacted and/or are unable to prepare the documents during the application period, you will not be permitted to take the entrance examination.

Will I be contacted once my application has been accepted?

Normally the only contact made with applicants is the sending of an examination admission card to those whose applications have been formally accepted. If a message is included with the examination admission card, please follow the instructions in the message.

I have not received an examination admission card, nor have I been contacted by the School of Business Administration Office. What should I do?

If you have not received an examination admission card by two days before the examination, please send an e-mail(info@cm.hit-u.ac.jp) by the next day (one day before the examination) containing the necessary information.

Is it possible to request a change in my oral examination time?

The time cannot be changed under any circumstances.

Will I receive a notice of acceptance?

A notice of acceptance is sent to successful applicants. Unsuccessful applicants are not contacted.

FROM ACCEPTANCE UNTIL ENROLLMENT

My address has changed since I applied. What procedure should I follow?

Please send an e-mail (info@cm.hit-u.ac.jp) or letter containing the necessary information to the School of Business Administration Office.

What is the procedure for declining admission?

o Please sign and seal a letter simply indicating your reason for declining admission and any other necessary information and send it to the School of Business Administration Administration Office. ・Notice of Declining Admission (sample form (Japanese))

I’m an international student. I have been informed that a certificate of acceptance is necessary for issuance of a visa. How can I obtain one?

Please send an e-mail at info@cm.hit-u.ac.jp. For Financial Management and Strategy Program, please contact our Chiyoda campus at chiyoda-info@hub.hit-u.ac.jp. We will provide specific guidance.

When will I receive the enrollment procedure documents?

They will be sent out in early March. From the time the examination results are posted until early March there will be no contact from The School of Business Administration Office.

Is it necessary to visit the school to complete the enrollment procedures?

It is possible to complete the procedures by postal mail.

I plan to be overseas during the enrollment procedure period. Is there anything I can prepare in advance?

Before the deadline for the submission of admission documents, please prepare two student ID photographs (4 cm high by 3 cm wide), and an original copy of your certificate of residence. In case your proxy is engaged in enrollment procedures on your behalf, please make arrangements to get the necessary documents reached the School of Business Administration Administration Office before the deadline. It is acceptable for your proxy to complete and submit the documents on your behalf.
Please be aware that at the time of a health examination you will take after admitted, you are supposed to submit your vaccination record. So, please have it ready by that time. (If you are a company-sponsored student, you do not necessarily have to take the health examination; you can be exempted just by submitting a copy of your health certificate.

My address after enrollment hasn’t been decided yet. What should I write in the address space in the enrollment procedure documents?

Please write your current address and notify us later of your new address, even if you can do so only after enrollment.
